PXT® is a proximity-based information system that allows consumers to get on-the-spot information about all types of objects in their surroundings. Content is delivered to smartphones, PDA’s, and handheld computers and can be played in real time or stored for future reference.

Unlike other location-aware technologies, PXT does not use the internet, GPS, or the carrier network to gather information about nearby objects. Rather PXT creates a direct link between the user and the object of interest and exchanges information via Bluetooth. The basic idea is: if you want to find out about the painting on the museum wall – ask the painting on the museum wall.

Direct communication is possible because PXT provides the means for an object to store and communicate information about itself, and, in so doing, transforms any ordinary object into a self-describing object. By eliminating all network and satellite dependencies PXT provides an exceptionally robust solution that works in extreme and isolated environments where other technologies cannot. Simply, reliably, and inexpensively, PXT delivers information in-hand and on-the-spot.

PXT is designed for universal use. All sorts of objects can become PXT self-describing objects. Examples include: a museum exhibit, a bulldozer, an ancient tree, a historic landmark, a house for sale, a new product in the storefront window, and a business professional – yes, people are self-describing objects too. PXT offers solutions in many varied markets and industries such as heavy equipment maintenance and operation, farming, mining, real estate, retailing, cemeteries, travel and tourism, parks and recreation, museums, tradeshows and conferences, street fairs, and assistive technology. PXT technology can be used to transmit and receive on-the-spot information about objects at home, at work, and everywhere in between.

The PXT product line consists of two cooperating software components, which are packaged and licensed separately. PXT Portal, the information supplier component, is Bluetooth-enabled server software that can be configured to provide multimedia content for any type of object. It is designed to be installed on a mobile or small fixed-mount device that is attached to or embedded within an object. PXT Probe, the information consumer component, is Bluetooth-enabled client software that runs on a mobile device alongside other installed apps and is used by the consumer to locate, access, and display content from nearby PXT Portal’s. PXT Probe will automatically handle content from any PXT Portal and all types of objects. PXT Portal and PXT Probe may operate on separate devices or they may co-reside on the same device.
